SMDO was given the rebranding project from ‘Ankoto,’ a sweets brand featuring ‘anko’ as its star ingredient. Our responsibilities included art direction and design for the packaging and logo of ‘Anko Cheesecake,’ ‘Anko Chocolate,’ and ‘Anko Pudding,’ as well as providing advisory services for photography.

Anko is a traditional sweet made by carefully kneading azuki beans. The new package design is inspired by the azuki beans, the main ingredient of anko. Using hand-drawn illustrations, we’ve depicted the azuki beans in rich colors to evoke the flavorful essence of anko. Also, the golden-shining azuki beans represent the use of the highest quality beans carefully selected by artisans.
